My mom gave me my first Toni Morrison book in college — The Bluest Eye. Toni Morrison’s words showed the power of black women — she gave our stories voices and she taught us the importance of being and feeling seen in this world. As a writer, I looked to Toni Morrison as a pioneer in the small community of black female writers who wrote their truth and did so apologetically — for black people. We’ve lost a legend and one of the greatest minds of our time. There will be no one like Toni Morrison.
Missing this city today, and especially missing the croissants I had from this bakery that my carb-loving self could have had 10 of.
I got 8+ hours of sleep and the lighting at the gas station was great this morning. A win.
